ABOUT ME
Jaclyn Lim
I find great value in supporting others in their journey of self-improvement and fulfilment, helping them cultivate a healthy relationship with themselves, and foster meaningful relationships with others.
My work derives not only from evidence-based approaches, effective tools and strategies, but most importantly, the uniqueness and strengths of every individual I work with.
I like to spend time to get to know the person sitting in front of me. I am curious about the interplay between their thoughts, feelings and behaviours, and how these relate to how they perceive themselves, the world, and their interactions with others.
My goal is to support helpful changes in my client’s lives.
HISTORY
More about me
I began practising as a psychologist after completing a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours Class 1) at UNSW, and a Master of Clinical Psychology at WSU. I have years of experience in supporting people across the lifespan, from infancy to the later stages of life. I’ve worked in a variety of clinical settings, including university clinics, the public health system (e.g., Infant, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (ICAMHS) at Campbelltown), not-for-profit organisations (e.g., Karitane, One Door Mental Health), and private practice. My experiences involved providing assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for a range of mental health difficulties including anxiety, depression, personality disorders, PTSD, complex PTSD, behavioural challenges, and more. I have also supported neurodivergent individuals (e.g., persons with ADHD, Autism) with neurodiversity-affirming practice.
In addition to private practice, I also work as a clinical psychologist in Jade House, specialising in supporting parents and/or expectant parents struggling with mental health difficulties during the perinatal period. These include postnatal
depression/anxiety, birth trauma, adjustment issues, and difficulties with attachment/bond with the infant. I also work alongside the Toddler Clinic at Karitane, co-facilitating the My Toddler and Me program, teaching parents skills from PCIT for Toddlers (PCIT-T), to strengthen their relationship and learn how to manage big emotions and behaviours in their little ones. In my role at Karitane, I also provide consultancy, and have been involved in other aspects of the organisation including consumer engagement, and speaking at a GP conference providing education about perinatal mental health.
Prior to practising as a psychologist, I worked in research at Black Dog Institute and UNSW. I believe in the importance of translating data into meaningful applications in the field of psychology. My areas of research included culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) populations, suicide prevention, specific phobias, virtual reality therapy, and cognitive behavioural therapy for panic disorders. I have actively contributed to the field via published papers and presenting at multiple conferences.
